UK Gunite were appointed to undertake essential structural repair and refurbishment works to a section of the sea wall adjacent to Dover Port.

Following removal of the existing facing, the package included the application of dry spray concrete as well as extensive concrete repairs. Initially, the existing substrate required a condition survey to ascertain the full extent of defective concrete.

We undertook testing of the surface area, where several different types of defects were discovered. Following this survey, the method of rectification for each individual repair was discussed and agreed with our client. This included both low-viscosity resin injection to minor cracks within the substrate and the use of thixotropic resin to areas with more extensive cracking. A number of these areas also required the installation of reinforcing stainless steel bars.

Due to the tidal conditions, all materials used had to be rapid setting and specifically selected for each type of repair.

With the varying tides, this project also required extensive planning for each working week to ensure the most effective operations with the available working timeframes.

UK Gunite had to resource sufficient teams so that operatives were available to work to deliver the project on both day and night shifts as required.
