How Hypnotherapy works – and what it feels like.

Hypnosis isn’t being asleep or losing control. It’s a natural state of focused attention that you already experience every day.

During hypnotherapy, I’ll guide you into a deeply relaxed but focused state where your conscious mind can become quieter and your attention turns inwards. This allows us to work more directly with the thoughts, beliefs, habits and emotional responses that may be keeping you stuck.

What does hypnosis actually feel like?

For most people, hypnosis feels calm, comfortable and surprisingly familiar. You remain aware of what is happening and can hear my voice throughout. You can move, speak, open your eyes or come out of hypnosis whenever you choose.

You might notice your body becoming heavy and relaxed, or perhaps light and floaty. Your breathing may slow, your mind may wander and you may become less aware of sounds around you. Some people describe it as similar to that lovely feeling just before falling asleep, getting completely absorbed in a good book, or driving a familiar route and suddenly realising you’ve arrived.

There is no single way hypnosis should feel. Some people feel deeply relaxed; others simply feel very focused. Both are completely normal.

So how does it help?

Once you are in this focused state, we can begin to work with the subconscious patterns behind the problem you want to change. Through therapeutic suggestion, visualisation and other techniques, we can encourage your brain to develop new ways of responding.

The goal isn’t to take control away from you — it’s to help you take back control.

You remain in charge throughout the session, and you don’t have to reveal anything you don’t want to. Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process, and we’ll work together towards the changes that matter to you.

You don’t lose control in hypnosis. You learn to use your mind differently.

Lisa’s relaxed and friendly approach made the consultation an easy process. She fully explained the pros and cons of each of the treatment options available to me. I feel confident that I will be getting the most appropriate treatment for my symptoms and medical history and I am sure the letter for my GP practice will provide them with the same reassurance.
