Frequently asked questions
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that uses guided relaxation, focused attention and positive suggestion to help you explore and change unhelpful thoughts, feelings, behaviours or habits. During hypnosis, you remain aware and in control, but the relaxed and focused state can make it easier to work with patterns of thinking that may be difficult to change through conscious effort alone.
Hypnotherapy can be used to support a wide range of goals, including managing anxiety and stress, overcoming fears and phobias, stopping smoking or vaping, changing unwanted habits, building confidence and supporting pain management. At Purple Elephant Hypnotherapy, sessions are tailored to you, your individual circumstances and the changes you would like to make.
Most people describe it as deeply relaxing and peaceful — similar to being absorbed in a good book or daydreaming, while still being aware of what is happening.
Yes. You remain in control throughout the session. You can hear me, communicate with me and choose to stop at any time.
For most people, hypnotherapy is considered a safe and well-tolerated approach when provided appropriately by a trained practitioner.
No. Hypnotherapy can complement appropriate medical care but does not replace diagnosis, medication or treatment from your GP or other healthcare professional.
You do not need a referral from your GP, but in some circumstances, you will be asked to contact your GP for a review first. This may be recommended due to your medical history or symptoms you are experiencing.
Yes. I’m a professionally trained and qualified clinical hypnotherapist, with extensive experience supporting people through health and wellbeing challenges. I also have over 40 years’ experience as a registered nurse, including advanced practice and specialist women’s health experience.
My hypnotherapy work is kept separate from my nursing practice, and I only work within my training, competence and professional scope. If I feel hypnotherapy isn’t appropriate for you, I will always be honest and recommend that you seek the most appropriate support.
Yes. Everything you share during your hypnotherapy sessions is treated as confidential and handled securely in accordance with UK data protection (GDPR) requirements.
The only rare exception is if I have a serious concern that you or someone else is at risk of significant harm, or if I am required to disclose information by law. Wherever possible, I would discuss this with you first.
My aim is always to provide a safe, supportive and trusting environment where you can speak openly and honestly.
You can discuss this with me beforehand. Sessions are normally one-to-one to provide a private and confidential environment.
When you choose the video link consultation, a link will be sent to you by email. You just click on the link provided and it will take you to the session. It is an idea to book in 10 minutes early so that know that your link is working. If you have any problems booking in I will phone you on the telephone number you have provided. Make sure you have a nice private space and time to talk uninterrupted. It is best to listen with headphones. I will need to see you on screen a all times to monitor your response to hypnosis.
Most people feel calm and refreshed afterwards, but if you feel particularly relaxed or sleepy, allow yourself time to feel fully alert before driving.
You can book online using the booking page on the website or contact me via email to lisa.watson@zoodesignmarketing.co.uk. I aim to answer emails within 48 hours.
Payment is made at the time of booking online. Follow the link on the booking page.
Alternatively pay directly into my business account – you will be provided with details.
Refunds will only be available if a cancellation is generated by Purple Elephant Hypnotherapy.
Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process and, while I will always do my very best to help you achieve your goals, I cannot guarantee a particular outcome. For this reason, sessions are non-refundable once they have taken place. If you feel you’re not getting the benefit you hoped for, we can discuss your experience and consider whether a different approach or further support may be more appropriate.
Purple Elephant Hypnotherapy reserves the right to cancel appointments at any time if unforeseen circumstances arise.
Any cancellation requests must be made with at least 48 hours’ notice of the original booking. Cancellation requests after this time will be charged the full appointment fee.
